AADvance orthodontic anchorage devices are small, temporary screw-like dental implants made of a titanium alloy. They are attached to the bone underneath the gumline above upper molars or below lower molars. The auxiliary devices provide a perfectly-positioned anchorage point onto which to attached the rubber bands. With traditional braces, rubber bands are anchored to brackets on the molars themselves. While effective to a degree, this configuration presents issues as the angle of tension is not the most optimal and the molars are not the most steadfast anchors. (In some cases, molars themselves can move as a result of band tension.) With AADvance orthodontic anchorage devices, these issues are eliminated, and optimal tooth movement is facilitated.
